Wartune is a free-to-play MMORPG designed to be played on a flash-enabled web browser. It is developed by Kabam Inc. and their game is just like every other MMORPG currently available. There’s nothing unique about Wartune’s gameplay. Everything in here has been used in other games and the whole game is geared towards selling as many micro-transactions as possible. In-app purchases are rife in this game. So much so that you can buy your way into winning just about any battle. The characters are unnecessarily sexualised in an obvious attempt to coax more micro-transactions from a game that’s marketed for teenage boys. When a developer doubts the quality of their gameplay, they can always count on teenage lust to keep their sales numbers above the red.
Wartune is set in a medieval world ravaged by a thousand years of war. The fire demon and his legions of demons soldiers have ravaged the planet, turning the landscape into a desolate wasteland. Millions have died. The few that survive rally around Archimonde, one of the few remaining heroes of old and master of the Holy Sword, and set out to destroy the fire demon. On this quest, combat can either be player vs player or in group melees. Players have the choice to play as on of three classes of characters;
The Knight who is heavily armoured and specialist with swords and hand-to-hand combat. This character is always on the frontline of the battle, leading the charge.
The Archer who has a powerful bow and a quiver full of arrows. Archers are stealthy and fast and are able to use magical skills to enhance their weapons.
The Mage who is an expert in magical elements used mainly to support their allies.
Characters are controlled using the mouse and keyboard, with the keys 1,2,3,4 and 5 for skills and magic. Left-click selects and controls the players while the arrow keys are used for QTE skills while in battle.In duel fights, players can challenge as many as 20 other players each day in a turn-based fighting arena with QTE elements thrown in to keep the player engaged while their characters carry out attacks. The system automatically chooses opponents based on your current ranking so you will not be able to play with your friends on demand. Duel battles are rewarded with gold depending on the player’s ranking.
The other fighting option is the arena. In the arena, players team up with 2 other players to compete against groups to win honor and tokens that can be exchanged for valuables at the insignia shop.
